What auto insurance covers for an Amarillo driver
Texas Transportation Code §601.072 sets the liability floor for an Amarillo driver at 30/60/25, with the detail on that floor, on personal injury protection (PIP) under Texas Insurance Code §1952.152 and on the uninsured motorist offer under Texas Insurance Code §1952.101 all on the Texas Auto Insurance page.
Amarillo splits the rest of the policy in two, because spring hail is a comprehensive claim and a winter slide is a collision claim, and the two carry separate deductibles.
FEMA has listed the City of Amarillo in the National Flood Insurance Program’s regular phase since July 19, 1982 as community 480529, with the Amarillo flood insurance rate map in force dated June 4, 2010. FEMA also records that the city adopted Randall County map panels for its annexed areas.
Which counties an Amarillo address rates in
Amarillo straddles a county line. Most of the city lies in Potter County and the southern part lies in Randall County, per the U.S. Census Bureau.
Texas Insurance Code §2253.001 stops an insurer that subdivides a county into rating territories from charging any subdivision more than 15 percent above another for identical coverage, and 28 TAC §5.9960 lets it exceed that only on a rate that is actuarially sound and supported by data filed with the Texas Department of Insurance.
One appraisal district covers both sides of that line, because the Potter-Randall Appraisal District appraises property in Potter County and Randall County alike. The territory plan an insurer files does not have to follow suit, so a house south of Hollywood Road can rate on a different line from a house near the Tri-State Fairgrounds.
Give the address where the vehicle is garaged.
Hail in spring, ice in winter, and which auto coverage answers
Hail and winter ice are the two Amarillo claims, and both are warned on from the same place. The National Weather Service Amarillo forecast office issues severe thunderstorm and hail warnings and winter storm warnings for Potter County and Randall County, and NOAA’s Storm Events Database logs those reports by county.
Hail and ice hit different parts of the policy:
- Hail is comprehensive, so the comprehensive deductible is the spring number
- Sliding into a ditch or a guardrail on ice is collision
- Sliding into another vehicle is liability, and the other driver’s repair bill goes there
- A cracked windshield from road grit is comprehensive again
Collision coverage does nothing for a dented roof, and comprehensive does nothing for a winter crash.
What Aulona Insurance Group places for Amarillo drivers
Aulona Insurance Group places personal auto for Amarillo drivers under Texas Agency License #3481412, for clean records and for records carrying tickets, at-fault accidents or a lapse, and the Texas Auto Insurance page carries the placement list in full.
Panhandle households usually run several vehicles and several drivers, teenage drivers on a parent’s policy included, and an SR-22 filing is the other file that arrives regularly.
Luka Cenaj, the agency’s licensed principal, goes through the coverage on a recorded call before anything binds, and an Amarillo policy only goes to an insurer the agency is appointed with.
Where Aulona Insurance Group is not the right fit
Aulona Insurance Group cannot place an Amarillo vehicle at $150,000 or more in manufacturer’s suggested retail price, one built before 1981, one without a seventeen-digit VIN, a recreational vehicle, all-terrain vehicle, trailer, golf cart, bus, hearse or heavy truck, a storage-only or gap-only policy, or a post office box garaging address.
The Panhandle throws up more of these than the suburbs do, and a stock trailer behind the pickup is the clearest example.
Non-owner policies are declined except a non-owner SR-22 for a listed driver. A vehicle used for business, or titled to an LLC, corporation, partnership or trust, is not written on a personal auto policy. Aulona Insurance Group places it as commercial auto instead. See Commercial Auto Insurance in Texas.
What moves the price of an Amarillo auto policy
The premium on an Amarillo auto policy is set by the insurer, not by Aulona Insurance Group, and no figure for it appears anywhere on this site.
An Amarillo rate is assembled from the record, the coverage chosen and the Potter or Randall County territory behind the address:
- The driving record, which belongs to the driver and not to the address; a ticket, an at-fault accident or a gap rates for years
- Liability limits raised above the 30/60/25 floor
- The comprehensive deductible, which is the hail number, and the collision deductible, which is the ice number
- The vehicle’s age, value, and what an Amarillo body shop charges to repair it
- Which of the two counties the vehicle is garaged in, and the territory that county sits in
Panhandle hail reaches an Amarillo rate through the territory filing, not through the driver’s record.
