What auto insurance covers for an Austin driver

Texas Transportation Code §601.072 sets an Austin driver’s liability floor at 30/60/25, with personal injury protection (PIP) offered under Texas Insurance Code §1952.152 and uninsured motorist coverage under Texas Insurance Code §1952.101, and all three are set out in full on the Texas Auto Insurance page.

Austin adds one thing to that standard form, which is a garaging question with three possible county answers rather than one.

FEMA records the City of Austin as National Flood Insurance Program community 480624, in the regular phase since September 2, 1981, with the current Austin flood insurance rate map effective January 17, 2025. Water pulled into an engine at a low-water crossing stays a comprehensive claim, because that program never covers a vehicle.

Which county an Austin auto policy rates in

Austin is the county seat of Travis County, and the city limits also cross into Williamson County and Hays County, per the City of Austin.

Texas Insurance Code §2253.001 stops an insurer that subdivides a county into rating territories from charging any subdivision more than 15 percent above another for identical coverage, and 28 TAC §5.9960 lets it exceed that only on a rate that is actuarially sound and supported by data filed with the Texas Department of Insurance.

An Austin mailing address settles nothing on its own:

  • A house in North Burnet can sit in Travis County while a house a few minutes up the road in the same city rates in Williamson County
  • A house south of Slaughter Lane can fall to Hays County

The insurer rates the garaging address, the one the vehicle returns to at night, not the mailing address.

What hail and flash flooding do to an Austin auto policy

Hail and flash flooding are the two Austin weather events that damage a parked vehicle, and liability coverage pays for neither.

The National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio forecast office issues the severe thunderstorm, hail and flash flood warnings that cover Travis and Williamson counties, and it publishes the storm reports afterward.

Comprehensive coverage is what pays in both cases. Hail dents on the roof and hood, a cracked windshield, and water pulled into the engine at a low-water crossing are all comprehensive claims.

Collision pays for none of it. Liability never did.

An Austin driver on 30/60/25 and nothing else owns that damage outright. A financed or leased vehicle usually carries comprehensive and collision already, because the lender requires it.

How Austin driving miles reach an auto rate

Miles driven is a rating question an Austin agent asks, and the answer moves with the commute rather than the city.

The Texas Department of Transportation lists the City of Austin on its own line in the annual Crashes and Injuries by Cities and Towns tables drawn from the Crash Records Information System, alongside every other Texas city.

Three things an Austin driver should have ready for the call:

  • Roughly how many miles each vehicle covers in a year
  • Whether the vehicle commutes, or stays parked most weekdays
  • Which address each vehicle is garaged at, including a second address for a student

Crashes land on collision and liability. Mileage and use reach the rate through the insurer’s rating plan.

What Aulona Insurance Group places for Austin drivers

Aulona Insurance Group writes personal auto statewide under Texas Agency License #3481412, standard and non-standard, and the Texas Auto Insurance page holds the placement list in full.

Austin households bring the multi-address version of that work more than most: one vehicle at the home address, a second at a student address, and a mileage question behind both.

Luka Cenaj, the agency’s licensed principal, confirms every vehicle and every listed driver on a recorded call, and an Austin file goes only to insurers Aulona Insurance Group is appointed with.

Where Aulona Insurance Group is not the right fit

Aulona Insurance Group holds no personal auto market for a vehicle at $150,000 or more in manufacturer’s suggested retail price, a vehicle built before 1981, a vehicle without a seventeen-digit VIN, recreational vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, trailers, golf carts, buses, hearses or heavy trucks, storage-only and gap-only policies, or post office box garaging.

A non-owner policy is declined unless it is a non-owner SR-22 for a listed driver.

A vehicle used for business, or titled to an LLC, corporation, partnership or trust, is not written on a personal auto policy. Aulona Insurance Group places it as commercial auto instead. See Commercial Auto Insurance in Texas.

What moves the price of an Austin auto policy

Premium on an Austin auto policy is set by the insurer, never by Aulona Insurance Group, and no figure for it appears anywhere on this site.

An Austin rate is built out of the record, the limits and deductibles chosen, and the territory the vehicle is garaged in:

  • The driving record, on which a ticket, an at-fault accident or a coverage gap keeps rating for years
  • Liability limits set above the statutory 30/60/25
  • The comprehensive and collision deductible, where a higher deductible means a smaller premium and a larger bill after a hailstorm
  • The age and value of the vehicle, and what an Austin body shop charges to repair it
  • The county and territory the vehicle is garaged in

Central Texas hail and flood water reach an Austin rate through the territory, not through the driver.

Working with Aulona Insurance Group from Austin

Aulona Insurance Group works from one office, in Plano, and serves Austin by phone. No visit to Austin or to Plano is part of placing coverage.

The form here is eight questions, about two minutes, finishing with a one-time code texted to the mobile number on it.

Luka Cenaj calls from there, and an Austin file reaches the appointed markets only after that call. Austin drivers who prefer Albanian have the whole conversation in Albanian.
