What auto insurance covers for an El Paso driver

Texas Transportation Code §601.072 sets an El Paso driver’s liability floor at 30/60/25, and the Texas Auto Insurance page carries the detail on that floor, on personal injury protection (PIP) under Texas Insurance Code §1952.152, and on the uninsured motorist offer under Texas Insurance Code §1952.101.

El Paso adds a boundary no inland Texas city has, because the Texas Department of Insurance tells drivers in its consumer auto insurance guide that a Texas policy generally does not cover a crash in Mexico and that Mexican liability coverage is bought separately.

FEMA lists the City of El Paso as National Flood Insurance Program community 480214, in the regular phase since October 15, 1982, with the El Paso flood insurance rate map in force dated February 16, 2006.

How El Paso County rates an auto policy

El Paso is the county seat of El Paso County, and the city takes up most of the county’s populated ground.

Texas Insurance Code §2253.001 stops an insurer that subdivides a county into rating territories from charging any subdivision more than 15 percent above another for identical coverage, and 28 TAC §5.9960 lets it exceed that only on a rate that is actuarially sound and supported by data filed with the Texas Department of Insurance.

Two things follow for an El Paso household:

  • An El Paso address does not share a rating territory with Dallas, Houston or Austin, even on the same policy form from the same insurer
  • A vehicle kept at a Fort Bliss address rates on that address like any other

The insurer rates the garaging address, and a post office box is not one.

Who pays when an El Paso driver is hit by an uninsured motorist

Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage is the part of an El Paso auto policy that answers a driver with nothing behind them. Texas Insurance Code §1952.101 requires the offer on every personal auto policy, and a driver goes without it only by signing a rejection.

No share of uninsured El Paso drivers appears on this page, because Aulona Insurance Group publishes no figure it has not taken from a named source. Three facts settle the choice anyway:

  • Liability on your own policy pays other people and never pays you
  • Uninsured motorist coverage answers the at-fault driver carrying no policy at all
  • Underinsured motorist coverage answers the at-fault driver whose 30/60/25 runs out before the injuries do

A hit-and-run with no plate number is an uninsured motorist claim when the coverage is on the policy, and nobody’s claim without it.

What dust and wind do to an El Paso auto policy

Blowing dust is the El Paso weather event that damages a vehicle without a crash, and liability coverage pays none of it.

The National Weather Service El Paso forecast office issues the blowing dust advisories, dust storm warnings and high wind warnings that cover El Paso County, mostly through the spring wind season.

Sandblasted paint, a pitted or cracked windshield, and damage from a wind-thrown object are comprehensive coverage claims. Collision does not cover them.

A driver who hits something because visibility dropped is on collision instead. An El Paso driver carrying 30/60/25 and nothing else owns the dust damage.

What Aulona Insurance Group places for El Paso drivers

Aulona Insurance Group places personal auto for El Paso drivers under Texas Agency License #3481412, standard and non-standard risk alike, with the full list of vehicles and uses on the Texas Auto Insurance page.

El Paso County files arrive with two extra questions attached: whether a Fort Bliss address is the garaging address, and whether the vehicle crosses into Mexico.

Luka Cenaj, the agency’s licensed principal, works through both on a recorded call, and no El Paso risk goes to an insurer the agency does not represent.

Where Aulona Insurance Group is not the right fit

Aulona Insurance Group cannot place an El Paso vehicle at $150,000 or more in manufacturer’s suggested retail price, one built before 1981, or one without a seventeen-digit VIN, nor a recreational vehicle, all-terrain vehicle, trailer, golf cart, bus, hearse or heavy truck, nor storage-only or gap-only cover, nor a vehicle garaged at a post office box address.

Non-owner policies are declined, with the single exception of a non-owner SR-22 for a listed driver.

Mexican liability coverage sits outside the agency’s markets as well. A vehicle used for business, or titled to an LLC, corporation, partnership or trust, is not written on a personal auto policy. Aulona Insurance Group places it as commercial auto instead. See Commercial Auto Insurance in Texas.

What moves the price of an El Paso auto policy

Premium on an El Paso auto policy is set by the insurer, never by Aulona Insurance Group, and no figure for it appears anywhere on this site.

An El Paso rate reads the driving record, the coverage kept or signed away, and the El Paso County address the vehicle is garaged at:

  • The driving record, where a ticket, an at-fault accident or a lapse sits on the rating for years
  • How far above the 30/60/25 floor the liability limits go
  • Whether uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage is kept or signed away
  • The comprehensive and collision deductible, and the age and value of the vehicle
  • The El Paso County garaging address and the miles driven from it

El Paso wind and dust reach the rate through the territory, not through the driver.

Working with Aulona Insurance Group from El Paso

Aulona Insurance Group works from one office, in Plano, and serves El Paso by phone. No visit to El Paso or to Plano is part of placing coverage.

El Paso County is one of two Texas counties the U.S. Department of Transportation places in the Mountain Time Zone, so 9 a.m. in Plano is 8 a.m. in El Paso, and the hour that suits you belongs on the form beside your number.

Eight questions on this site take about two minutes and end with a one-time code texted to that number, after which Luka Cenaj calls and the risk goes to the appointed markets. El Paso drivers who prefer Albanian can have the whole conversation in Albanian.
